Wetland Reclamation Around The World

wetland reclamationWetland reclamation is a worldwide phenomenon due to the need for more land spaces for habitation, industry, and agriculture. There are numerous ways to accomplish this task, the simplest of which is called “in-filling”. This entails filling an otherwise watery area with riprap, rocks, clay, and dirt. Another means to the same end is to dredge an area and drain off the water. Retaining walls are then built in some instances in order to contain the area after reclamation. At Wilco Manufacturing, we produce amphibious equipment necessary to achieve these objectives. Our product line includes Amphibious Excavators, Cranes, Digger Derricks, Amphibious Draglines, Amphibious Drill Units, Personnel Carriers, and Specialty Buggies. We can build an Amphibious Hydraulic Undercarriage for various excavator brands, and we can ship our equipment across the globe.

China leads the world in land reclamation with having recovered approximately 4,600 square miles of land thus far. The Chinese government has prioritized this objective since the late 1940s. For example, it is believed that 65% of the tidal flats around the Yellow Sea have been recovered as part of this objective. The Netherlands are also world leaders in this process. After Hurricane Katrina devastated the Metro New Orleans area in 2005, a Louisiana delegation traveled to the Netherlands to study the processes employed by them. There are many other countries utilizing these processes to achieve the same goals.
