Wetland Maintenance

Recent storms including Hurricane Sally and Tropical Storm Beta have brought a lot of flooding to the Gulf Coast including storm surges.  During a storm surge, the amount of water running over the surface of the land increases, and in severe storms, flooding may result. Many wetlands have the capacity to temporarily store flood waters during high runoff events. Experts say wetland continuity and vegetation are effective in reducing storm surge levels. That’s why is important to maintain wetlands. A certain amount of landscaping for water redirection can help an over-saturated wetland recover, according to experts.
